VETC

VETC, a subsidiary of Tasco, is an electronic toll collection service in Vietnam. The organization provides a comprehensive suite of digital services such as payment processing, transportation logistics, and customer platforms. Their products serve a large user base and require frequent updates with high reliability. Given the scale of their operations and user base, VETC has to offer uncompromising system reliability. For a system that facilitates daily commutes and financial transactions, any disruption can lead to user dissatisfaction and operational bottlenecks. 

The Challenge

The VETC mobile apps are built in Flutter and allow users to recharge, view transactions, and check vehicle usage history. The app store release cycle has posed a significant barrier to agility and has limited developer productivity. When critical fixes are necessary the team would need to create an emergency app store submission and then wait for approval. Waiting for third-party approvals became an operational risk.

The Shorebird solution

Recognizing the need for a more resilient deployment strategy  the VETC team chose Shorebird to deliver over-the-air (OTA) updates eliminating the traditional bottlenecks of app store review cycles. Code Push transformed their release process giving them the ability to patch bugs, update application logic and make small improvements without going through the full app store release process.

“Shorebird gave us a “hotfix pipeline” to address urgent fixes for our Flutter apps, reducing hotfix release times from several days to a few hours,” said Trần Hán Hiếu.

With Shorebird VETC has been able to deliver hotfixes immediately reducing the impact to users during incidents. By drastically reducing the administrative overhead associated with app store submissions VETC has optimized its engineering resources. Developers are now positioned to iterate faster and conduct safe testing in production environments.
