Meet Wesley: Shorebird's new Head of Product
Hi there — my name is Wesley, and I'm absolutely thrilled to share that I'll be leading Product here at Shorebird.
I'm a technical product leader with broad experience, ranging from EdTech to DevTools, and a deep passion for building in all its forms. No matter the role or organization, I've always found myself drawn to what I think are the three pillars of Product: Empathy, Strategy, and Creativity. I couldn't be happier to bring my product philosophy (and truly mediocre sense of humor) to Shorebird.
Product @ Shorebird
Shorebird has built a mature, reliable product in Code Push without a dedicated Product person up until now. However, with so many opportunities to serve Flutter developers, it's more important than ever before to be connected to the builders. That's where I come in.
My role here at Shorebird is, first and foremost, to listen to you. Seriously, book time with me. Whether you are a first-time Flutter vibe coder or an experienced veteran, I want to understand your bespoke development lifecycle, or the unique and innovative way you are using Flutter to build something no one else has. Tell me what you love and hate about both Shorebird and Flutter, and we'll figure out a way to solve the bad, and supercharge the good.
I'll also be contributing to company strategy and structure. Code Push is a well-loved product, and an absolutely integral part of thousands of developers' toolchain, so I'll ensure it gets the love and attention it needs to continue firing on all cylinders. But Shorebird is growing, and there's a lot more to do; I'll also be assisting the org in prioritizing new products and features to dazzle minds and delight hearts.
Why Shorebird
Shorebird stood out to me for two reasons.
The first is the people; the team is small and scrappy, with the kind of ambition that gets me hyped, and communication skills that make collaboration a breeze. Teams and cultures like that are hard to find.
Second is the product. Code Push is the type of product that PMs dream of working on: its value proposition is deeply obvious for anyone who has faced App Store review times. It also has this incredible flexibility that matches team working styles, since it can be used like an insurance policy, or like a CI/CD tool. Coming from a web-biased background, I'm very motivated to enable a continuous deployment-like experience on mobile.
What's Next
My role is all about understanding the builders, so I am doing a lot of listening right now. The things you share with me will go on to inform Shorebird and Code Push's next phases. I'm also bringing some patterns and structure to Shorebird that have worked well for me at other organizations — threading the mythical "useful process" needle.
As for what's next at Shorebird, we have a lot we're working on, and it's all exciting. I'm incredibly excited and grateful to be a part of this Shorebird as we soar (I warned you about the bad humor).
